Water pistol

Will  you accept your mission, Enclave? Are you prepared to get splashed as you’ve never been splashed before? Well, if you sign up for the Raleigh Wars, or the Raleigh Water Wars as I call them, then the water is definitely coming your way.

The ‘Raleigh Wars, beginning August 1st,  are by far one of the coolest homegrown games that I have ever heard of. It’s a game all about stealth, tactical planning, and hitting as many targets as you can. To play, just register on the Raleigh Wars website and then on Sunday you will be given a name. This will be the name of your target, should you accept your mission.

Once you recieve your ‘target’s’ name, without breaking any laws, or showing up to anyone’s job, church, or any other place of importance,  you must stalk them and squirt them using an approved self-contained-water-source device like a squirt gun, water balloon, etc.

After you hit your target, you obtain that person’s target, and the game continues. The person with the most hits wins! But, if you haven’t hit anyone within the first week, a ‘hit squad’ will come after you. Doesn’t this sound fun?

On August 21, White Collar Crime will host the Assassin’s Ball, aptly titled for the stalking and water squirting that you must do, and it’s only for Water Wars participants. There will be free PBR, Jimmy Johns sandwiches, and the final battles will be taking place that night as well.

There will also be an award for best water assassination, so be sure to capture  your battles on video! For a list of prizes, check out the Raleigh Wars website.

Are you ready?

A team of Varsity Scouts getting ready to head...

Image via Wikipedia

Hey Enclave at Crossroads! Are you ready for the weekend? I know that I am. :) My question of the day is, do we have any runners out there? If so, you may want to start training now so that you can participate in the Golf Club at Rocky Mount 5 and/or 10 K!

The Golf Club at Rocky Mount 5 and 10 K takes place on Saturday, September 11 at 8 am.  This is a 5K, 10K and family Fun Run event that raises money for the Tar River District Cub and Boy Scouts. They are hoping to raise over $3500 to benefits the scouts.

I know it doesn’t seem to make much sense to be running at a golf course, but seeing is believing. There are six uninterrupted miles of wide and smooth paved paths. Runners and walkers will pass over multiple brick bridges, through several wooded paths, and take in multiple views of the 80 acre Belmont Lake along the route.

To make sure that everyone is able to participate, the Golf Cub is hosting three runs: the 5K, 10K, and Family Fun Run. The Family Fun Run is a 3K run that allows parents and kids to get in on the action. This race begins at 7:45 am and is untimed. It allows kids to race like mom and dad and cross under the same finish line arch, while earning a special finisher’s award and getting a race shirt. Kind of like elementary Field Day to the 10th power. All participants must register for this event. However, if parents who are running in the 5 and 10K want to run with their kids, they don’t have to register twice.

The 10K starts at 8:15 and participants will begin on the private Ford’s Colony entrance road beside the main fountains. The race will continue through all 18 holes on the course, so you’ll get to see the Golf Club in all it’s splendor!

The 5K starts at 8:20. Participants will begin on the same entrance road, and will also enter the paths of the course. After the first four holes, 5k runners will turn down a hard packed dirt road for a few hundred yard, before returning back to the paths at hole 14. They’ll eventually meet up with the people from the 10 K run.

For our walkers out there, you can definitely participate in the 5K and enjoy the non pressure of having a cut off time. Food and snacks will be provided for runners after the race, and prizes will be awarded to both first-third overall Male and Female, first place Master’s winners, and first-third for age groups.

This sounds like a really fun event, and you definitely have a good amount of time to train. Just make sure that you register for the races early; they sell out every year.

Happy running!

Hey everyone! Do you need something to do during the week when you get off of work or what have you? The Sheraton Hotel Raleigh hosts 5 o’clock Thursdays with Jason Adamo every Thursday evening, and apparently they’re quite fun.

At these sessions you get free food and drink specials, while enjoying the soul/rock sounds of Jason Adamo. The event takes place on the outdoor patio/bar if the weather permits.

For those of you that don’t know, Jason Adamo is an NC based soul/rock singer songwriter. He has toured all over the U.S. sharing the bill with various well respected artists including Ben Harper, Martin Sexton, Jack Johnson, Corey Smith, Hootie and the Blowfish, and many more. I’ve included a video of Adamo below, so that you can get a feel of what you’ll be hearing on Thursday evenings from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Hey Enclave! Have you ever attended one of the concerts in the Starlight Concert Series, held at the Page Walker Hotel Garden Stage? If not then you’re definitely missing out on  a treat, but you have a chance to make up for it. Today, in the 2010 Starlight Concert Series, Jamrock (a series favorite) will be hitting the stage.

Jamrock is an authentic reggae group. If you’re not really familiar with the genre of music, then this is a great opportunity for you to step out of your normal genre and hear something different. Reggae is definitely ‘happy’ music; you can’t help but sway to the beat. Jamrock plays all versions of reggae: Lovers Rock, Oldies, Dancehall and Roots. There’s no sound quite like it.

The Starlight Concert Series is a series of FREE concerts held on select Friday evening through the summer, which begin at 7:30 pm. If you miss this one, the next one is scheduled for July 23rd. So bring your blankets, lawn chairs, friends, family, and a picnic, but no alcohol!

Have you ever been to the Starlight Concert Series?
